TEHRAN – The Barekat Charity Foundation will repair and rebuild 54 schools and 400 homes in the earthquake-affected areas of Andika town, southwestern Khuzestan province.

Two fairly strong earthquakes occurred within five days. According to Tasnim, the first occurred at the border between Khuzestan and Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari provinces on October 4. The second happened on October 9.

The October 4 earthquake measured 5.7 on the Richter scale. This happened at 6:09 am local time. The October 9 earthquake occurred at 2:46 am with a magnitude of 5. It shook the town and villages of Qala-e-Khajeh near the town of Andika, destroying some homes, president.ir reported.

“We will also support 150 employment plans for those whose businesses were damaged in the earthquake, which will provide direct and indirect jobs to 450 people,” said Mohammad Torkamaneh, director of the Foundation.

He went on to note that 11,500 villages and 2.25 million households are covered by Barakat’s insurance activities and services across the country.

The headquarters for the execution of the order of the Imam was founded in 1989. In the Iranian calendar year, 1386 (March 2017-March 2018) Barekat Charity Foundation – the social branch of the organization – in the purpose of promoting social justice was created.

Socio-economic empowerment of communities by encouraging entrepreneurship by giving priority to female breadwinners, developing infrastructure such as water supply and electricity grids, building roads, building schools and increasing educational spaces, promoting health for all, granting non-repayable loans and insurance, especially in the less developed areas and the regions most affected by the war imposed in 1980-88 and natural disasters are priorities of the charitable foundation.
