Chief’s support for Council of Guardians “comforts us”: Jannati
TEHRAN – Guardian Council Secretary Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati on Wednesday thanked Islamic Revolution leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for supporting the Guardian Council, saying the leader’s support had comforted members of the supervisory body.
“It is necessary to announce my thanks and praise and those of the members of the Council of Guardians to the chief’s recent speech. He has always supported the position and performance of the Guardian Council at different times and that encouraged us, ”Jannati said at a council meeting.
The Guardian Council has confirmed seven presidential candidates. The names of the confirmed candidates were announced by the Home Office on May 25.
In a speech to Parliament via videoconference on May 28, the Chief said, “The Honorable Council of Guardians did what it deemed necessary within its responsibility. Ayatollah Khamenei also thanked the candidates who respected the decisions of the Council of Guardians despite the fact that their competence was not confirmed.
In his remarks on Wednesday, the head of the Guardian Council also said the population faced major economic problems and the low-income classes were under great pressure.
He said whoever wins the election should take immediate action to reduce the economic pressure on the masses.
The presidential election will take place on June 18. Some predict that the election could go to a second round.
