Iran denounces Israeli missile attack on Damascus
TEHRAN – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman on Friday denounced the latest Israeli missile strike on Syria near the capital Damascus, which left people dead and injured.
“The Zionist regime’s continued aggression and attacks against Syria are a clear violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a flagrant violation of recognized international principles and regulations,” Nasser Kanaani stressed.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson went on to say that the international community, especially the United Nations Security Council, must fulfill its obligation to deal with the ongoing crimes and high-risk behaviors of the Zionist regime.
“The repeated attacks of the Zionist regime against Syria constitute a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of this country and will help the armed terrorists and maintain and strengthen their presence in Syria, which in fact threatens the security of the region”, Kanaani remarked.
He also expressed his surprise and sadness at the silence of international organizations and human rights defenders in the face of such illegal behavior by the Israeli regime.
According to the ministry, the Israeli enemy launched an airstrike from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, adding that the Syrian air defense was able to intercept some of the incoming missiles.
On Friday morning, Syrian media said Israel struck Damascus, killing three soldiers and wounding seven others.
The strike was the 17th of its kind carried out by Israel against Syria since 2018.
After 2011, as Syria was engulfed in a wave of widespread, foreign-backed militancy and terrorism, Tel Aviv’s attacks on the country began to dramatically increase in size and regularity.
In response to the Israeli attack, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said the nation reserves the right to confront the continuing Israeli aggression with appropriate measures in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.
The Ministry confirmed Israeli criminal acts of aggression using missile bursts from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan targeting certain points around Damascus in two identical letters addressed to the UN Secretary General and the President of the Security Council, according to official information from Syria. SANA agency.
The ministry has pleaded with the UN and the Security Council to uphold their obligations under the UN Charter and denounce this type of Israeli aggression.
He asserted that the inability of the Security Council to take the necessary steps to stop and denounce the repeated attacks by the Israeli regime demonstrates the inability of the international body to accept responsibility for its actions and its inability to discharge even the bare minimum of its obligations in the maintenance of peace and security. in the region and around the world.
He pointed out that US aggression and violations of international law, the occupation of northeast Syria, the plunder of its oil and the supply of arms to terrorists hired by Washington to obstruct a political settlement and to the restoration of security and stability in Syria cannot be separated from the Israeli attacks.
The strikes, according to the ministry, are carried out in direct support of armed terrorist organizations that are committing atrocities throughout Syria.
The Israeli regime, along with the United States and other Western and regional partners, has been a strong sponsor of terrorist organizations operating against the government in Damascus.
