Iran says refinery plagued by fire will be back online on Thursday
(Bloomberg) – An oil refinery in the Iranian capital that was engulfed in a massive fire will be back online on Thursday, Iranian state press service Shana reported, citing Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh.
Tehran’s southern oil refinery suspended all operations on Wednesday after a leak in a liquid gas pipeline sparked the blaze that sent huge plumes of black smoke across the city , state television reported earlier, citing the director general of crisis management for Tehran province, Mansour Darajati.
There were no reports of fatalities or injuries, and firefighters brought the blaze under control, which burned at least 20,000 barrels of diesel on Wednesday evening, the official Islamic Republic news agency reported.
Zanganeh said output from the refinery, which has a daily refining capacity of 220,000 barrels of oil, was unaffected and there was no shortage of fuel as a result of the damage.
The incident came the same day a fire sank an Iranian Navy training ship in the Gulf of Oman and less than two weeks after an explosion at another refinery in the oil-producing region of Abadan, in southwestern Iran.

Previously, the Tehran Oil Refining Co., which manages the refinery and is a subsidiary of the state-owned National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Co., ruled out sabotage as the cause, the semi-official news agency of the Iranian students.
The refinery is one of many in Iran that was intended for modernization and development with the help of foreign investment until former US President Donald Trump walked out of the 2015 nuclear deal. three years and reimposes the sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
A video posted by Shana showed that the site was still engulfed in huge flames and huge plumes of smoke after dark in Tehran, when Zanganeh went to inspect the blaze.
