TEHRAN – A senior Iranian lawmaker visiting Syria welcomed the expansion of ties between Tehran and Damascus in various fields.
Abbas Golrou, deputy head of the Iran-Syria Parliamentary Friendship Group, said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes the improved relations with Syria in various fields.
On the second day of his visit to Damascus, Golrou said in a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad at the Syrian Foreign Ministry that “the Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria are long-time friends with historical backgrounds and religious commonalities that support each other. other in various developments in the region.
The Iranian lawmaker noted: “The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that strengthening the commonalities and increasing the level of trade can strengthen the two countries in the face of US sanctions.”
Golrou attributed the survival of Syria and the victory over Daesh and other takfiri groups to the wise leadership of the country’s president and the people’s struggle against the takfiri groups, according to Iranian news agency IRNA.
Golrou, Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, said: “The implementation of agreements and joint cooperation are very important in the process of strengthening the economic power of the two countries. and the Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes the improved relations with Syria in various fields.
Golrou stressed: “Special attention to economic issues and special cooperation in this area will further strengthen interactions between the two countries. “
The ranking legislator saw the cooperation of friendship groups and parliamentarians as the first step in the interaction between the governments of the two countries and a suitable platform to improve the level of cooperation.
He added: “Parliamentary relations, meeting of joint committees and interactions of friendship and parliamentary groups will play a constructive role in strengthening Iran-Syria relations.”
During the meeting, the deputy head of the Iran-Syria Parliamentary Friendship Group described the country with a bright horizon and future, and stressed the need to pay special attention to economic cooperation and cultural capacity building. , social and economic.
Congratulating the Islamic Republic of Iran on the presidential election, Syrian Foreign Minister Mekdad called the two countries strategic friends and constant support for each other.
Mekdad added: “Iran and Syria have once again shown internal unity and solidarity with the world by holding timely elections. “
Explaining the situation and recent developments in the region, the Syrian Foreign Minister stressed the need for vigilance and cooperation between senior officials of Iran, Syria and other countries.
Appreciating the continued support of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Syria in the fight against terrorism and extremism, Mekdad said: “Syria has emerged from the crisis and the time has come to rebuild its infrastructure, and we are welcome the support of friendly countries for economy and trade. During the discussion of the ongoing negotiations on the Iranian nuclear issue, Mekdad praised in this regard the wisdom, strength and determination of the Iranian leadership to defend the interests and rights of its people in the face of all attempts to pressure again. , and Syria stands alongside Iran in these negotiations.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on developments in the region, particularly in the occupied Palestinian territories, where views were identical on the importance of sustaining the steadfastness and resilience of the Palestinian people until ‘that its occupied land be liberated and its independent state with Jerusalem as its capital established.
The Iranian delegation also met the President of the People’s Assembly Hammoudeh Sabbagh, who on Thursday affirmed the importance of strengthening parliamentary relations through exchanges of visits, views and joint coordination at regional and international conferences. , according to SANA.
During his meeting with Golrou and his support team, Sabbagh said that the forces of evil and global aggression, led by the United States, are jointly besieging Syria and Iran under false and misleading titles, claiming that they fight terrorism, when in fact they support and protect it.
As a follow-up to its visit, the Iranian delegation also met Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous. The two sides stressed the importance of strengthening parliamentary relations, increasing joint visits to achieve the common interests of the two friendly countries and peoples.
The Syrian Prime Minister affirmed that the Syrian government seeks to advance and develop the economic cooperation and trade exchanges between the two countries and to promote it up to the level of the strategic relations which unite Syria and Iran.
