Iran’s ambassador to Syria praised the strategic relations between the two countries in all fields, saying that Tehran and Damascus have supported each other in recent years in the face of US economic wars.

In an exclusive interview with Lebanese news site al-Ahed on Friday, Mahdi Sobhani said observers believe Iran-Syria ties are the oldest political, economic and military ties between Iran and one of the states. Arabs from the Middle East.

He also noted that due to the commonalities between the goals of the Iranian and Syrian leaders, the two sides have always maintained their cooperation under all circumstances regardless of pressure from Arab and Western countries to drive a wedge between the two.

“Interaction in international relations has several levels, including cooperation, partnership, alliance and union. We are allies. This means that we have taken the initial steps… and that we are developing bilateral relations, ”Sobhani said.

“The level of our cooperation with Syria has reached the highest levels. There is a military cooperation agreement between the two countries which covers all areas of cooperation and will be implemented if necessary.”

Syria has struggled with foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. However, Syrian government forces, backed by Iran and Russia, have managed to regain control of almost all areas from the Takfiri terrorists.

The United States and its European Union allies have imposed tough sanctions on Syria, after militant groups it has long sponsored in their attempts to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad’s government failed to reach their objectives on the battlefield.

Elsewhere in his interview, the envoy said that Iran, which has defeated the US maximum pressure campaign, is ready to provide its Syrian brethren with all the expertise and experience they need to face the sanctions. Western illegalities.

“We are cooperating and coordinating fully with the Syrian government, and we will do our best to counter this economic war. We are absolutely confident in our victory, ”he added.

Sobhani further pointed out that the enemy’s strategy in Syria, which was to overthrow the government and disintegrate the country, has not yet changed, but the tactics for this have changed.

“The first strategy the enemies announced was regime change in Syria. Today they are talking about behavior change. However, they are lying because their strategy is the same as before. Thus, the battle is not yet over, but its tactics have changed, moving from the military to the economic and social domain in order to force the Syrian government to change its position, ”he explained.

“Sanctions, economic pressure, international political pressure, raising issues such as human rights, the use of narrative warfare, the spread of rumors, psychological warfare and changing opinion public are the tools that the enemy uses today to try to push the Syrian government to abandon its positions and objectives.

Commenting on Iran’s fuel delivery to Lebanon via Syria, Sobhani said the move upset the enemy’s calculations and forced them to violate their own sanctions.

“The importance of this step goes far beyond solving the problem of fuel shortages in Lebanon and is within the framework of geopolitical issues… It has moved the theater of the confrontation from land to sea. has also shown that if the axis of resistance decides something, no it can be stopped, and this proves that sanctions can often become an opportunity. “

In September, the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah imported fuel from Iran to ease the pain of the people of the Mediterranean country, which was nearly crippled by fuel shortages amid an economic crisis.

Iranian ships unloaded their fuel cargo at the Syrian port of Baniyas, from where it was transferred to Lebanon with tankers.
