TEHRAN – Iranian researchers published 20,757 scientific papers in the first quarter of 2022, compared to 19,961 in the same period last year, ISNA said on Wednesday quoting Peyman Salehi, an official from the Ministry of Science.

A review of the Scopus World Rankings in terms of Normalized Citation Index over the past 10 years shows that Iran has fallen from 22nd place in 2011 to 16th place in 2020.

Studies show that in 2021, the number of Iranian scientific articles indexed by the Scopus International Citation Database reached 77,351. This figure was equal to 71,971 in 2020 and 64,988 in 2019.

While scientific papers and latest research results from Iranian researchers in 2019 received about 0.08% more citations than the international average, in 2020 it rose to 14%.

Furthermore, research activities resulting from Iran’s international participation in scientific output was around 27.4% in 2019, which increased to 30.7% in 2020.

The share of Iranian articles in the world’s top 1% most cited was 1.2% in 2019, which reached 1.3% in 2020. This group of articles has the highest number of citations in the world of Science.
