Canada (8,000 tonnes), Mexico (5,400 tonnes) and Belgium (719 tonnes) were the top destinations for US ferrosilicon exports, with a combined share of 84% of total volume. These countries were followed by Brazil, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Spain, which together accounted for an additional 13%.
In terms of value, Canada ($14M), Mexico ($11M) and Brazil ($1.1M) appeared to be the largest markets for ferrosilicon exported from the United States globally, with a combined share of 85% of total supplies. These countries were followed by Turkey, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Spain and Switzerland, which together accounted for an additional 12%.
Among the main destination countries, Switzerland, with a CAGR of +49.3%, experienced the highest growth rate in the value of exports over the past decade. Deliveries from the other leaders experienced more modest growth rates.
Export prices by country
The average export price of ferrosilicon stood at $1,833 per ton in 2021, up 12% from the previous year. Prices varied significantly depending on the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($2,095 per ton), while the average export price to Belgium ($978 per ton) was among the lowest. . From 2011 to 2021, the most notable growth rate in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+6.2%), while prices for other major destinations experienced contrasting developments.
US imports of ferro-silicon
After two years of growth, foreign purchases of ferrosilicon decreased by -6.9% to 189K tons in 2021. Over the past decade, imports have recorded a noticeable reduction.

The average import price of ferrosilicon stood at $2,284 per ton in 2021, up 85% from the previous year. There were significant differences in average prices between major supplying countries.
