Vintage Volkswagen stage rally in favor of responsible tourism

TEHRAN – On Thursday, a total of 24 vintage Volkswagens from across Iran began joining a car rally towards Kashan to support responsible tourism in the COVID era.

Participants drove Volkswagen Transporters from their home provinces of Bushehr, Khorasan Razavi, Isfahan, Yazd, Kerman, Alborz and Tehran, CHTN reported on Saturday.

The travelers met on Friday in Kashan for the event organized by the Touring & Automobile Club of the Islamic Republic of Iran (TACI).

Many travelers choose to pass through Kashan on their journeys between Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, and Yazd, as this charming oasis town on the edge of Dasht-e Kavir is one of Iran’s most alluring destinations. Kashan not only has a set of architectural wonders, an atmospheric bazaar and a UNESCO recognized garden, but it also offers some of the best traditional hotels in central Iran.

The term “responsible tourism” is used by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts as a “viable solution” to ensure that vacationers can travel safely during the pandemic.

Iran is home to thousands of remarkable classic and vintage vehicles. For example, while browsing the Iranian Classic Car Museum, visitors discover a collection of the best classic and unique automobiles, some of which are unique even in the world.

The Touring & Automobile Club of the Islamic Republic of Iran is an affiliate institution of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts. Its tasks include facilitating travel for vehicle owners abroad or foreign tourists traveling to Iran with their own vehicles. The institution also contributes to the development of tourism by creating tourist information offices in Switzerland and abroad, as well as by developing tourist infrastructure and services.
